Imagine you're a talented young artist who has just been given free rein to create any sculpture you like in a massive outdoor sculpture park. Anything....What would you choose? Luckily that Artist is Zakriya Rabani and he chose to design, build and erect a 25ft steel S thing sculpture. The artwork sits proudly at the Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer, Minnesota since 2019.
Zakriya was participating in the Franconias artist-in-residence program. This allowed Zakriya 10 weeks to execute on his designs and erect the worlds largest S thing (to date). He was so excited he pulled it off in 8 weeks.
The impressive sculpture sits at a whopping 25 x 22 x 3ft and is made entirely of steel. Titled 'There is Always a Link' - Zakriya uses everyday objects and simple materials to remind viewers of faded traditions and to bring back those warm fuzzy nostalgic feelings we oft forget. He wants to remind people that despite all our differences, we are all connected, even through something as simple as this symbol. Ditto!
